Deck of Cards
Using Adobe Illustrator, I created a high-quality vector illustration depicting the tale of the Ebony Horse from the book One Thousand and One Nights. Presented below are the designs of the Jack, Joker, King, Queen and Ace, as well as a numbered card. I’ve designed a warm set of diamonds and a cold set of spades using complementary colours.
Design Process
I applied a gradient across all elements using purple, dark pink and light pink. Purple can be considered to be a cold or warm colour as it is right between red and blue. Similarly, Soolking’s music is based on the warm tones of Algerian Raï and Arabic from his homeland, combined with the coolness and sleekness of French rap, making all of his songs upbeat and huge hits.
I used repeated lines that follow the same movement as the letter S, setting the energy and mood of Soolking’s music. For the image, I used Photoshop to add a colour fill of purple with a linear burn effect to set a warm tone across the image.
